Vidalia | Boone
Upscale-casual Southern-influenced restaurant in downtown Boone

Vidalia is one of those places that quietly outperforms expectations. The menu looks short, the room is unfussy, and nothing about it screams for your attention — and then the food arrives and you understand why people keep coming back. It's doing something more interesting than it lets on.
The basics: Downtown Boone, walkable from most of King Street. Entrées around $30, smashburger around $18, salads around $14.
What it is: Thoughtful, well-executed food without being precious about it. A proper sit-down dinner that doesn't feel like it's trying too hard. Relaxed atmosphere, good service, and the kind of place that rewards slowing down rather than rushing through.
What to order: The menu items sound straightforward but are more complex than they let on. Start with the pimento cheese and sourdough bread ($11) — the bread alone is worth mentioning. The Vidalia salad ($14) is fresh and simple, a good lighter option if you're sharing. Then go for the chicken and dumplings ($28): they're more gnocchi-style than traditional Southern dumplings, which sounds like a gamble but works well. They’re tender, well-seasoned and satisfying without being heavy.

I fell hard for Vidalia’s pimento cheese and sourdough for a starter.
Good to know: The menu reads shorter than it actually is — look carefully before you decide it's not for you. Order a few things to share rather than going straight to a single entree. It's walkable from downtown Boone, which makes it a natural anchor for an evening that starts with drinks somewhere on King Street.
The move: Make Vidalia the centerpiece of your nice night out in Boone. Maybe grab a drink beforehand somewhere else before walking over. Another option: brunch ($12-17).
